Forgotten Coast Wildflowers

Ponce de Leon named Florida for its profusion of wildflowers. There are over 6,000 species of flowering plants in the Land of Flowers and after time spent in the right places on the Forgotten Coast, you might think all 6,000 grow there.

Sunrise in the long-leaf pine and wire grass forest can be breathtaking and that’s what we’ll be shooting for.

Then as the soft early light spreads over the incredible diversity of flowering plants, we’ll maximize our experience by visiting areas burned two-years previously; for it is fire that manages the forest and all its inhabitants.

We will photograph single flowers in peak bloom and fields of backlit beauties as the wildflowers are some of the first plants in succession after fire. We’ll visit creeks and other water features for rich landscapes and unique views. We’ll end our tour deep within the forest, on the banks of the Apalachicola River.

The equipment requirements for this tour are very flexible. Recommended: tripod, wide angle from 20mm to 50mm; medium telephoto to 400mm. Macro lenses can be effective.

Time: 5 hours
Cost: $375 for one photographer, $500 for two.
